Can Anyone Do Botox Training?

Here in the UK, anyone can train to carry out Botox injections, whether full-time or part-time. There are many places to access Botox courses, and it is crucial to find the most qualified and experienced training academy to train and learn. Healthcare professionals must achieve the right level of qualification before they can perform Botox injections.

In this article, we will discuss how Botox is administered, the qualifications needed to perform Botox injections, and how we can help healthcare practitioners here at the Derma Institute.

How is Botox Administered?

When the procedure is done, a small needle is used to inject a tiny amount of botulinum toxin into the skin or muscle being targeted.

The length of time the procedure takes will depend on how many injections a patient gets and what they are being used to treat. For most people, the procedure will not take longer than 10 minutes, and they will not feel any pain.

The results of the Botox injection are usually observable within a couple of days of the procedure and last between three and four months.

It is vital that Botox is always administered by a qualified and experienced practitioner.

Can Anyone Train to Do Botox?

Currently, there is no specific legislation in place in the UK that prohibits anyone non-medical from performing Botox injections and other injectable cosmetic procedures. This means that anyone can perform Botox injections, provided they have the proper certification.

However, there have been indications that the government is considering implementing legislation or regulation of injectable cosmetic procedures. This means that stricter controls and higher levels of training may be required in the future.

Under the current law, beauty therapists can train and practice Botox and dermal fillers. However, due to uncertainty in the future of the legislation and regulation of the cosmetic procedure industry, many clinics and medical spas will only employ medical professionals like doctors, nurses, pharmacists, dentists, and dental nurses.

What Qualifications Do You Need to Do Botox?

Any qualification that a Botox practitioner takes should include practical skills training to ensure they can deliver the procedure safely.

All Botox training and practice should be done under the supervision of an experienced and qualified aesthetic practitioner. The qualification gained should allow practitioners to observe the procedure performed by other trainees.

Depending on the level of qualification taken, the trainee will be required to practise and be observed performing the procedure a set number of times to ensure good practice.

Level 7 Diploma in Botox & Dermal Fillers

The Level 7 Diploma in Clinical Aesthetic Injectable Therapies is the highest level of qualification in aesthetics, and it is required for a practitioner to use Botox comprehensively. The Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (OFQUAL) regulates it to ensure that aestheticians can carry out Botox procedures to the highest levels of safety and quality.

Once achieved, practitioners should be able to make sound judgements about Botox procedures and their administration. They will be able to deal with issues of varying complexity and administer Botox autonomously.

As part of this qualification, practitioners will also need to observe and perform 40 Botulinum toxin and dermal filler treatments. The course can last anywhere between six and 18 months, depending on whether it is taken full—or part-time, and offers the very best in training and qualifications in Botulinum Toxin.
